We are delighted to announce the addition of two new faculty members to the Centre for French and Linguistics, both with a starting date of July 1, 2013.

Dr. Philip Monahan earned his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Maryland in 2009. He also holds a Certificate in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science from the University of Maryland and both an M.A. and B.A. in Linguistics from the University of Florida. His work focuses on how the brain encodes phonetic information, how phonological structure is used to interpret the speech signal, and the time-course of access to morphological structure. He integrates approaches from linguistics, experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Since 2010, Dr. Monahan has been a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain. Phil's appointment is in the tenure stream at the rank of Assistant Professor. He will teach linguistics and psycholinguistics courses in the CFL and will be a member of the graduate Department of Linguistics at the St. George campus.

Dr. Eri Takahashi also holds a Ph.D in Linguistics from the University of Maryland (2009). She has a Certificate of Completion from the Linguistic Society of America Summer Institute at Harvard University/Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. from the Division of Language at International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Takahashi's research focuses on the acquisition of syntax in children; she has worked on the acquisition of pronominal reference and has examined statistical learning mechanisms for syntax. She has Japanese language teaching certification and a broad range of teaching experiences in linguistics. Since 2010, Dr. Takahashi has worked as a Research Assistant, Lab Coordinator and Linguistics instructor at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language. Eri's appointment is in the teaching stream at the rank of Lecturer; she will teach linguistics and Japanese language courses in the CFL.

Please join us in welcoming Phil and Eri to the University of Toronto!
